The old Mountain View Hotel in Gatlinburg, Tennessee is a landmark of the area. In the background, the base of Mt. LeConte begins its climb to 6,593 feet. Both the old hotel and Mt. LeConte are favorite subjects of many local artists. In 1916 Andy Huff built the Mountain View Hotel in Gatlinburg, Tennessee to house timber customers. Later he expanded his operation to provide food and lodging for vacationers. His business sense proved to be a stroke of genius as from the acorn of his one hotel has sprung over four hundred specialty shops decked out in alpine trim and offering items from art to furniture, gifts, wood signs, candle shops, lace to stuffed black bears. Together these stores and the people who frequent them create the magic-like town of Gatlinburg.
